I had to wait a month to get ATT to come out and install their U-Verse. 1 month! During this month I was out on a weekday night doing some quality time with my fiance and we walked past a Clear store. Light bulb. Being in the internet business and not having access for one month is not an option.

After probing the Clear guy, I found the the stats on the line.  3-6 Mbs download and .5-1 upload for $40 a month to get the wirless modem that uses the new 4g cell phone towers. I could also add a 4g wireless usb device for a grand total of $55. Pretty solid deal.

My first question was do you lease these 4g towers from Sprint. The reply, no, Sprint leases them from us. Wow, kinda neat to know. Contracts? Yes, kinda. You get a two week trial period to return no questions asked, but if you pass that two weeks you only have to pay a $40 fee to cancel.

Great I'm in. While 3-6 Mbs isn't enough for the super nerds out there, it works pretty good for all my downloading needs and matches what most have in their cable/DSL modem at home, should you ever try a speed test on your internet line.  Plus this wireless modem goes with me anywhere and no connect/disconnect fees, or transferring addresses. Just pick it up and plug it in where ever I am. Easy and cheap, love it.

But, when I got home, plugged the modem in and let it get signal I only received one bar. I tried moving it from room to room, but one bar was it. Damn, with one bar you don't see the 3-6Mbs proposed, I was only seeing about 1Mbs which is a definite no go. While I love the idea of Clear, coverage seems to be the biggest hurdle for them. I'll probably check back in a year or so. I really in my heart want it to work, so I never have to deal with a cable/u-verse guy again.
